Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has suggested that he may have to leave the club if he cannot be guaranteed game time.

The 6’4″ colossus [Transfermarkt] started last season as number on at Elland Road, but fell out of favour when United signed Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid.

And the 22-year-old has made his situation very clear.

Speaking while away on international duty, as quoted by journalist Wayne Gardiner, he said: “If I stay at Leeds I’ll be staying at Leeds to play.

“The two scenarios would probably be I’m staying at Leeds and I’m playing or I’ll have to be elsewhere I think.”

OPINION

These are strong words from Peacock-Farrell but you have to sympathise with him. He was doing okay for Leeds at the beginning of this season before he was ousted for a bigger name with a bigger reputation. Ultimately, Casilla brought little to the team that the Northern Irishman wouldn’t have, and there’s even an argument to be made that his panicky performance in the play-off semi-final was a large factor in Leeds failing to make it Wembley. At 22, Peacock-Farrell needs to be playing regularly if he is to have a future at the top level, and it’s not unreasonable for him to make this kind of comment. Perhaps his timing and choice of platform is a little off, but even then, how better to get a message across? The question is now, will Marcelo Bielsa listen, or will the youngster be shipped out this summer? Only time will tell.
