Durham is a fan of WBA appointing Bilic

Adrian Durham approved of West Bromwich Albion appointing Slaven Bilic as their new manager but couldn’t believe he had gone to the Championship club.

The broadcaster shared he was in disbelief over the Croatian heading to the Hawthorns as the Championship club were stripping everything back and potentially losing players such as Jay Rodriguez this summer.

Durham admitted that while he was surprised, he thought West Brom had made an amazing appointment and even suggested that West Ham were a little hasty when they got rid of him.

“I can’t believe it, if I just tell you this fact, three years ago he took West Ham to a position where they were four points off the top of the Premier League,” said Durham on talkSPORT (16:10, Thursday June 13th).

“What is he doing in the Championship? What on earth is he doing at a Championship club that are stripping back everything, Jay Rod may go, Gayle isn’t coming back.

“There are problems at West Brom.

“It is an amazing appointment for West Brom, I wonder when you go back three years or two years ago when he was sacked by West Ham, I just wonder if they were a little bit too hasty.”

OPINION

West Brom finally ended their long hunt for a manager on Thursday when they announced they had appointed Bilic on their official website, and it must be just a relief for fans that someone is due to be sat in the dugout come the start of the season. The Baggies surprised everyone when they parted company with Darren Moore and continued to astound everyone when a replacement didn’t soon arrive. However with Bilic in the hot seat, at least the Baggies can start planning for life in the Championship next season. The club obviously didn’t expect to be in England’s second-tier for another season as they no doubt thought they had a squad capable of instantly winning promotion back to the Premier League. Yet that hasn’t proven to be the case and they must get their act together quickly to ensure they don’t end up spending a third campaign in the Championship. After all the longer you stay in the division, the harder it is to get out.
