Adrian Durham and Darren Gough clashed over whether Everton having a tough run of fixtures during December in the Premier League was a good thing.

The Premier League released the 2019/20 fixtures, via their official website, on Thursday and it was revealed that the Toffees had to face Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in the final month of 2019.

Gough shared that it was great news for Toffees supporters whereas Durham couldn’t see why it was a good thing as it could mean they’d suffer four defeats.

“Absolutely great for Everton fans,” said Gough (talkSPORT, Thursday June 13th, 16:29)

Durham quickly intervened to sarcastically say: “What that they might get nought points out of twelve?”

Gough ignored his co-host’s remarks and continued hyping up the Toffees’ December fixtures.

“Everton fans are in for a treat, they’ve got some great football to watch, what’s up with them?” added the former cricketer.

OPINION

Firstly, it’s worth pointing out the Toffees also have to face Newcastle United and Burnley in December and it’s not like they’ll be easy games either. However at the end of the day, everyone has to play everyone by the time the season ends so why does it matter that the Toffees have four hard games all wedged in the same month? If anything it might work in their favour, as they will have a few games in a row where the pressure will be off them as no one will expect them to pick up points. And when the pressure is off, sometimes it can see players defy expectations. Also then again, why should the Toffees not be confident of giving the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United a good game, and potentially beating them to the three points on offer. After all Chelsea can’t do any transfer business this summer due to being banned and they’ve just lost Eden Hazard. So they will be weaker next season. Then there’s Man United, who ended their 2018/19 campaign in a right mess. So maybe the Toffees shouldn’t worry about their December fixtures at all.
