Rangers have tabled a fresh bid for George Edmundson as they top offers made by English sides for the Oldham Athletic defender, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Gers have launched a £600,000 move for the 21-year-old powerhouse, who stands just short of 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt) after seeing previous bids, reported at £500,000, rejected.

It is stated English sides have also put offers in for the centre back but that Steven Gerrard has trumped them with his six figure bid.

Opinion

It seems as though Rangers have got their sights set on bringing Edmundson in this summer and considering that Gerrard is set to lose Joe Worrall after his loan spell, a new centre back was always going to be a priority. There might be some questions over whether the Oldham ace is up to the task of playing in a title chasing side in Scotland’s top flight but Gerrard seems to think he is worth the money and at the end of the day that is all that matters. He is young and obviously in high demand so there is definitely something there, even if it means the Gers have to spend time sculpting him into a first team quality defender. This is not going to be the inspiring signing that Rangers fans want to see this summer but it is an important one which will get the ball rolling on other new recruits coming through the doors over the next couple of months.
