OPINION
Aston Villa supporters have taken to Twitter to bemoan the latest report that the club are targeting a move for fierce rivals Birmingham City’s winger Jota, according to the Birmingham Mail. Dean Smith worked with Jota at Brentford and that could potentially explain the reason why Villa are making a potential move to sign the 27-year-old, which is confusing some Aston Villa supporters. Villa are also needing to bring in extra reinforcements in the side positions, with Albert Adomah set to be released after three seasons with the club, meaning the signing of Jota could be a useful option to fill the gap in Smith’s squad. However, as some Villa seem to think the deal involving a potential swap of Gary Gardner plus £4million does appear to be a little steep for a player whose end product has been questionable at times for Birmingham. Villa fans will be hopeful that if he does sign for the club Jota will be able to adapt to the Premier League, with the winger having never previously played in the top flight.

What do people think of jota, i don’t think he’s all that tbh and I’m surprised we’ve gone in for him. #avfc

The potential move of Jota to Villa is a bit puzzling. On his Blues form he is a no for me. But under Smith at Brentford he was a different player. A player i would have happily signed. Got to trust in Deano #avfc

Won’t say no to the jota Gardner swap but #avfc need to realise that we are in the premiership now we need stand out signings, can’t just nose back into the championship for average type players

No Thanks! Make them pay for Gardner and they can keep Jota. #AVFC https://t.co/vAb3wyCpjV

£4 Mil seems a bit much when the player is thrown in too, but it could just be that the City need help paying the wage bill
