Valencia remain interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Samuel Saiz and they could enter discussions to sign the 28-year-old in the summer transfer window as they hunt down a replacement for Denis Cheryshev.

Spanish news outlet El Gol Digital has reported that Valencia boss Marcelinho is keen to sign Saiz in the summer despite his poor form while on loan at Getafe.

The former Huesca playmaker joined Getafa on loan from Leeds in January and the La Liga club do have the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season if they wish.

However it seems as though Getafe may pass on their option to buy the midfielder from Leeds and that opens the door for Valencia.

Either way, Elland Road’s director of football Victor Orta should be looking to offload Saiz in the summer.

The 28-year-old’s form has been woeful while at Getafe, with him only appearing 11 times across all competitions during his loan spell.

He also didn’t look at complete ease while playing for Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds in the first-half of the season, so cashing in on the midfielder to either Getafe or Valencia is a no-brainer.

Leeds should hope that Valencia could forward to sign Saiz though.

They seem more keen on snapping up the playmaker as a replacement for Russia’s World Cup star Cheryshev and as they are owned by billionaire [Forbes] Peter Lim, there’s a chance to make a decent sum of money from cashing in on the 28-year-old Spaniard.

Leeds are yet to know what division they will be playing in next season as they approach their Championship play-off semi-final against Derby County.

However their budget for the summer transfer window could be nicely boosted by getting rid of a player who is no longer needed at Elland Road and is wanted by one of the richest clubs in the world.

Orta simply has to offload Saiz at the next available opportunity.
