Jim White has said that Harry Kane is set to play some part in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax on Wednesday night.

Talking on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 12.15pm), the host said that his sources had just told him the striker was set take part in the game in Amsterdam, but that he didn’t know if the striker was fit to start or would be on the bench.

“talkSPORT sources have just told me, this is what I’m hearing, that Harry Kane could well play some part in the match tonight,” White said. “Now whether that’s from the start or from the bench I don’t know.”

OPINION

Well, this would be a turn-up. Harry Kane was spotted in the stadium during the training session yesterday, but he was sat with Davinson Sanchez and he wasn’t taking part. He hadn’t been officially ruled out by Tottenham but it didn’t look like he would be fit to play. However, White is generally spot on with his information and has great sources, and this would be a sensational boost for Tottenham. Former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara was also in the studio and he said that he hoped Kane would be able to start if fit, but that even coming off the bench if needed would be a major boost for Tottenham. However, we’re not entirely convinced. The last Spurs update was that he was continuing rehabilitation on his injury and they put a tweet out yesterday saying he was “injured”. If he was named on the bench it would be some pretty major mind games from Mauricio Pochettino and that’s not really his style. However, it’s a huge game, possibly the biggest in Tottenham’s history, and if he is fit then Pochettino might consider it worth the risk. He wouldn’t need to come on unless he was absolutely needed and even if he could play five or 10 minutes, it could be enough to turn the tie. Spurs fans will be sweating the line-up news now.
