Former Spurs boss, Tim Sherwood, is confident that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will progress to the Champions League final and dubbed Ajax their ‘feeder club’.

Speaking on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast show (Wednesday), Sherwood explained how Spurs would have been delighted to have been facing Ajax at this stage of the competition if they’d have known earlier on in the season.

He added that he is confident that his former side can overturn a 1-0 deficit and reach the final.

“If it’s far-fetched for Tottenham to win the Champions League, how far-fetched would it be if their feeder club won the Champions League – and that’s Ajax.

“At the beginning of the season, if you said you’re going to play a two-legged semi-final against Ajax to get into the final of the Champions League, they would have ripped your hands off!” Sherwood added.

“I expect them to hit the ground running tonight and take the game to Ajax.”

OPINION

Tottenham have an unbelievable opportunity to reach the biggest stage in European football, the Champions League final, but Ajax have been outstanding.  Their youthful, attacking and fluid style will cause any side in the competition problems, as we have already seen. Harry Kane could be set to play some part in the game which would be a major boost for Spurs. Tim Sherwood is slightly underestimating Spurs’ opposition and if his former side are not at their very best, they will be exiting the competition. Ajax have an away goal and will know how much that will play a part going into the game, Spurs must ensure they stay organised and attack at the right moments. Failing to progress to the final given the circumstances would be a tough one to take for Spurs. An all English final could be on the cards for the first time since 2008, Liverpool v Spurs for the Champions League prize is simply enormous.
