West Ham have made contact with the representatives of AC Milan attacker, Hakan Calhanoglu, according to Calciomercato

The 25-year-old Turkey international has failed to hit the ground running since his near £19 million move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017, and is now attracting major interest from Manuel Pellegrini, with Milan valuing him at £26million.

The Hammers have approached Calhanoglu’s entourage in a bid to bring the Turk to the London Stadium. West Ham have been known to do business in Italy in recent years, with Felipe Anderson being one notable signing from Seria A.

Calhanoglu has only found the back of the net once in 33 league appearances for Milan this campaign and Gennaro Gattuso may well be looking to cash in on the attacker.

Leicester City are also said to be showing signs of interest, however, it is West Ham who are the early front runners for the winger renowneded

Good move for West Ham?

Having signed Felipe Anderson from Serie A last season, the Hammers will be hoping that Calhanoglu can follow in his footsteps. The Turkey international has been watched by some of Europe’s biggest clubs but has really failed to deliver for Milan since his move. However, judging by his dribbling ability and speed, he would not look at all out of place in the current West Ham side. His skilful ability would compliment Marko Arnautovic’s aggressive and direct style of play, it could be a recipe for success. However, AC Milan are not keen on selling for less than what they forked out for him and due to Calhanoglu not having a strong season, it may be too much of a risk to take.

Is it likely?

West Ham have not been afraid to pay big transfer fees in recent seasons, so the asking price for Calhanoglu will not intimidate the Hammers. The fact that Pellegrini has contacted the representatives of Calhanoglu is a sign of intent, it really does depend on whether West Ham see him as a risk or not.
