Former Spurs player Micky Hazard has told Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to gamble on the fitness of captain Harry Kane should they struggle for a goal against Ajax on Wednesday.

Tottenham go into their Champions League semi-final one goal down after losing the first leg 1-0 after a Donny Van de Beek goal and will welcome back Heung Min Son to the fold after suspension.

Hazard said on the talkSPORT Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show: “If we need a goal, chuck him on for 10 or 15 minutes and you know, a place in the Champions League final is the stuff dreams are made of”.

Harry Kane suffered an ankle ligament injury in the quarter final tie with Manchester City and was expected to miss the season.

Hazard also went on to add: “If his ankle breaks down, he’s got the full summer to recover”.

OPINION

These sort of occasions call for a club’s biggest players to show up and do the business for their side. There is no doubt that without their main striker Kane, Spurs are significantly weaker in regards of fire power. There has been constant rumours of when Kane could return to the side with some mentioning the final should they get there and some even saying he could be on the bench for Wednesday’s crunch tie. The emergence of Kane could be vital to Spurs’ chances of progressing after they were outclassed in the first leg. The return of Son after suspension could mean that Pochettino is happy with his forward options and may well choose not to risk Kane and leave it to his fully fit front men. The game is definitely winnable without Kane and the fact that Spurs are only one goal behind should mean that they shouldn’t risk the forward and save his fitness for a potential Champions League final as they would much prefer him to play in that should they get there.
