Chris Sutton cannot see Jose Mourinho heading to Glasgow to become the next Celtic manager.

Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported via his personal website earlier this week that the Hoops had approached the 56-year-old with an offer for him to replace Neil Lennon and become their next permanent manager.

It was understood that the former Chelsea boss would consider a change of direction in his career and take the job at Celtic, but Sutton has scoffed at the idea of the legendary Portuguese manager heading to Scotland.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Facebook Live, Sutton said said: “Neil Lennon has probably done enough to get the job and what I would say is who is the alternative? Are they going to gamble on another Deila?”

Host Darrell Currie then asked about Jose Mourinho.

Sutton responded: “Come on.”

OPINION

It would be one of the most surprising managerial moves in Scottish football history if Mourinho was to join Celtic at the end of the season, but like Sutton has suggesting, it’s simply not going to happen. The Hoops can knock on the door and make offers to any manager in the world if they want but they need to be realistic and look at hiring someone who will buy into the club and be committed to taking the Bhoys to 10 titles in a row. Mourinho would not be that person and even though he has an amazing CV and has won so many trophies in his career, his attitude in his last two spells at Manchester United and Chelsea have been torturous for fans. He has basically stunk the place out at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford and fans just wanted him to go. Lennon should be able to win 10 in a row for Celtic, so it is understandable why Peter Lawwell would hire him. But for whatever reason, it just seems like he knows he’s only going to be there for the next couple of weeks.
