After the 2-0 Old Firm triumph over Celtic at Ibrox yesterday afternoon,  goalscorer James Tavernier has lauded Scott Arfield’s impact.

Arfield rounded off a team move to score the Gers’ second goal of the game in the 64th minute and the Canada international has enjoyed a successful first season in Glasgow.

Tavernier was full of praise for his teammate after the game and highlighted the positive impact that the 30-year-old has made this season.

“He’s been exceptional since we have adapted to that new system. He’s been popping up with the goals left, right and centre so he works really hard for the team and he’s a great guy. I’m really happy for him to score today. ” Tavernier told Rangers’ official website.

OPINION

Arfield has made a big impact since his arrival from Burnley last summer. His 11 goals have made an enormous contribution and with more quality recruitment in the summer, Arfield could really shine next season if the right players are brought in around him. Rangers will be desperate to bridge the gap between themselves and Celtic next term and following the comfortable win yesterday, they will be high on confidence. Tavernier’s comments are completely justified, Arfield has arrived in a transition period and you couldn’t really ask for much more from him – next season the players will be familiar with Gerrard’s style and the players around one and other. Arfield’s goal yesterday capped off a hard-working, organised and professional performance. Gerrard’s first season in charge has been a solid one and despite missing out on the title, there is only six points between themselves and Celtic, next season promises to be an exciting one.
