Aston Villa will make a club-record £25million approach to Chelsea to secure the services of striker Tammy Abraham if they secure promotion, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper says that the deal hinges on Villa’s efforts at promotion, with the move likely to go ahead if the club secure a return to the top flight.

Abraham has been a star player in Villa’s team this season, netting 26 goals in all competitions for Dean Smith’s side.

Good move for Villa?

Most definitely. Abraham has been amazing for the Villans this term and it would be a shame for the club to see him leave. His 25 Championship goals are a key reason why Villa are where they are; without them, who knows where they would be. In fact, it was his penalty that turned the play-off semi-final first leg in their favour, and he has handed the club control of the tie heading into Tuesday’s second leg. Abraham had a torrid time of it the last time he was in the Premier League – with Swansea – but he would be much better in the top flight next season.

Likely to happen?

A large part of this deal of course depends on whether Villa get promoted. But it also hinges on whether Chelsea want the youngster back. The Blues are facing a transfer ban for the next two windows and might have to call on loan stars such as Abraham instead of splashing out on new talent. In any case, Abraham is not a bad player to have to bring back from a loan.
