Jon Flanagan has escaped retrospective action for his clash with Celtic’s Scott Brown in the Old Firm clash at Ibrox last week.

Flanagan had seemingly put a forearm into Brown during the game but he was given a yellow card by the referee.

He was then cited by the SFA compliance officer who thought his actions deserved more than a yellow but, on this occasion, Rangers have come out on top and Flanagan will now be free to face Kilmarnock in the last game of the season on Sunday.

However, Chris Sutton obviously doesn’t agree. He posted his verdict up on Twitter and kept it simple and to the point with six ‘laughing out loud’ emojis attached to a report on the decision.

OPINION

We’re not going to comment on whether we think this decision was right or wrong as Flanagan got a yellow card at the time. Right or wrong, that should be the end of it. Rangers complained about the treatment of Flanagan and pointed out that Jozo Simunovic seemingly elbowed Jermain Defoe in the same game and got away with it, and the Scottish authorities have a duty to be seen to be consistent both with players and with teams. Too many times this season the SFA have made strange decisions that have opened them up to accusations of bias on one side or the other. They need to take an urgent look at the past season and try to work out how they can improve. Rangers fans will be delighted with this decision but we’ve no doubt they’ll also be wondering why their players was offered the two-match ban while Simunovic wasn’t. It’s a decent question.
