Mauricio Pochettino has been handed a suspended one-match ban after Tottenham’s late kick-off against Ajax earlier this month, according to PA Sport reporter Jonathan Veal.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Pochettino has not been handed a touchline ban for Spurs’ Champions League final showdown against Liverpool on June 1 but he has been hit with a suspended ban for a year.

Spurs reached the Champions League final after winning on away goals against Ajax in the semi-finals over two legs.

Lucas Moura rounded off his hat-trick in the final minute of the match to book Spurs’ place in Madrid next month.

OPINION

That is a relief for Tottenham fans but it is still not great to know that Pochettino will have a suspended one-match ban hanging over him for the next 12 months because something could easily come up where that ban is enforced. Hopefully it doesn’t happen in any crucial match and it is great to see that he will be allowed to be on the touchline in Madrid next month when Tottenham play against Liverpool in one of the biggest matches in the history of the North London club. Pochettino has done a wonderful job at Spurs and reaching the Champions League final in such a dramatic fashion saw a culmination of all his hard work come together in one moment when Lucas scored that last-gasp goal. You could see just what it meant to Pochettino when he was in tears after the match at the Johan Cruyff Arena and that is why Spurs fans love him.
