Rangers have been turning heads recently.

When reports first broke about Steven Gerrard joining as manager no one really believed it, but things moved fast and the Liverpool legend made the move to Ibrox.

The same happened when Rangers were linked with a January move for Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe. People claimed his wages at the Premier League club – reported to be just over £100k-a-week – would scupper the move. But he too made the move up to Ibrox.

The latest report to be treated with disbelief is that of 27-year-old Watford striker Andre Gray. Despite him being on less money than Defoe – reportedly £70k-a-week – it does seem like another step up.

Unlike Defoe, Gray is a regular first-team player for Watford and he’s scored nine goals this season across all competitions.

However, we don’t know Watford have planned and they could be looking to strengthen this summer leaving Gray surplus to requirements.

He has been linked with a sensational loan move to Rangers this summer and Rangers blog Four Lads Had a Dream (a very good source of Rangers info) has said there is a”definite interest“, although even they say they don’t know how it could be possible.

Possible or not, it proves the ambitions of Steven Gerrard and Mark Allen. Why not aim as high as you can possibly go?

If they didn’t they wouldn’t have got Gerrard in the first place and they wouldn’t have signed Defoe. Leeds didn’t think they would get Marcelo Bielsa but he arrived and has been working wonders at Elland Road.

Talking today Gerrard refused to be drawn on the reports for Gray but he did say he expected to be able to sign players of that level in the summer.

If Rangers do sign Andre Gray then it will be a huge coup for Rangers and will seriously worry Celtic. A frontline of Alfredo Morelos, Andre Gray and Jermain Defoe would be by far the best in the Premiership.

If they sell Morelos then Defoe and Gray would be sensational on their own.

Rangers fans have every reason to be thrilled by the news and should enjoy the ride while it lasts.
