Adrian Durham offered Rangers-bound player Jake Hastie a tip by telling him to grow up fast.

The broadcaster offered the 20-year-old winger some advice after a video surfaced of the player saying he was heading to Ibrox to stop Celtic winning ten titles in a row.

Hastie vowed to end Celtic’s dominance for Rangers in a live video on social media while on holiday, as reported on by the Scottish Sun, and Durham was unimpressed with the player’s remarks about playing for the Gers.

“What about the Rangers new boy, Jake Hastie, he’s been filmed on holiday declaring he will stop Celtic winning ten in a row, no surprise he is teenager (he’s 20), he joins from Motherwell on a free this summer,” said Durham (talkSPORT, Tuesday May 28th, 18:43).

“He declared in a video, he is here to stop 10-in-a-row…you’ve just set yourself up for a massive fall.

“Here’s a tip, grow up fast.”

OPINION

Hopefully Hastie is a fan of Durham’s show as the broadcaster offers the winger some useful advice. While the 20-year-old is clearly thrilled to be joining Steven Gerrard’s side upon his Motherwell contract expiring, something the Gers confirmed was happening in May, maybe making such bold statements shouldn’t be how he shows his excitement. While every Rangers fan will no doubt love Hastie’s confidence, Durham is right to say the remarks will come back to haunt him. Imagine if Celtic win the league next season and Hastie struggles to deliver the goods at Ibrox? It’s a plausible situation and given his remarks, you could guarantee that his comments will be dug up one way or another and he will be mocked for them. Hastie is clearly a talented player, he scored 11 goals while assisting seven in 42 outings for Motherwell in his 2018/19 campaign, but his off-field attitude is just as important. Given that Gerrard seems to like his players to remain grounded, you feel Hastie’s new boss may have a few words with him shortly.
