Wolves are leading Tottenham in the race to sign young Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell, according to Football Insider.

The 18-year-old has impressed in his breakthrough season this term, making 10 Championship appearances and providing one assist in a further two FA Cup appearances.

Football Insider says that while Spurs tabled a contract offer for the player earlier this month, it is Wolves who are leading the race to sign him.

Good move for Wolves?

This move would present a wise investment from Wolves. Bolton are in no position to barter with the Premier League club over keeping Connell, so there would be no issues in trying to prise him away from the North West. He should not command too big of a fee either, and so if it doesn’t work out for Wolves they will not be losing much money. But on the face of it, it is likely that Connell will hit the ground running under Nuno Espirito Santo. While it is highly unlikely that Connell will be given regular first-team football in his first season, he could be given one or two substitute appearances here and there throughout the season.

Likely to happen?

As has been mentioned, Bolton are in no position to negotiate over trying to keep Connell and so it is likely that if a move from Wolves did come in, the 18-year-old would find himself moving down the country.
