Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week was shared on the Premier League’s official Twitter account on Tuesday and many West Ham fans were up in arms as a result. While Shearer named midfielder Mark Noble and attacker Marko Arnautovic in his team for their displays in the 3-0 win over Southampton, it wasn’t enough to stop Hammers fans demanding answers. It seems many West Ham fans were expecting to see defender Ryan Fredericks in Shearer’s team and were stumped why the pundit had opted for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold instead. It’s easy to see why Hammers fans were baffled as Fredericks was amazing against the Saints; and clearly warranted a place in Shearer’s team ahead of Alexander Arnold. The Hammers’ full-back not only scored against the Saints, but he was impressive when it came to his defensive duties as well. It’ll be interesting to see if Shearer opts to explain why he preferred the Reds’ Alexander-Arnold ahead of Fredericks on this occasion, especially with one Hammers fan below threatening to riot.
