Michael Owen is predicting West Ham to follow up their win against Tottenham by beating Southampton on Saturday.

The pundit shared that he thought the Hammers’ 1-0 win against Spurs was terrific and envisioned them racking up another three points against Saints to continue their momentum.

However Owen added that he was expecting Saints to be a threat during Saturday’s game as he was expecting an entertaining clash as he thought they’d be opportunities at both ends.

“The Hammers bounced back to winning ways with a terrific win at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend and I expect them to follow up against a Saints side who confirmed their Premier League status next term courtesy of a point at home to Bournemouth last weekend,” wrote Owen for BetVictor.

“The Saints have scored in their last nine Premier League games and I feel there will be plenty of opportunities at both ends in an entertaining clash.”

OPINION

The Hammers’ win against Tottenham was nothing short of terrific, so Owen was spot on with his one-word verdict, but wouldn’t it be typical of Manuel Pellegerini’s side if they dropped the ball against Southampton. The Hammers have been so unpredictable this season as one week they look worthy of the top-six only to come crashing down to earth the following weekend by submitting a performance a relegation-threatened side would be ashamed of. However with only a few games left and not much to play for, surely the Hammers can give fans something to cheer about on Saturday. There are several members of Pellegrini’s squad that should be playing for their futures, and that will hopefully see them raise their game. Next season the Hammers should be looking to consistently be competing for a spot in the Premier League’s top-half and a few of their players are still yet to show their worthy of playing for a club with ambitions like that.
