The agent of West Ham midfielder and Swiss international Edimilson Fernandes has confirmed that talks have been scheduled for the end of the Serie A season over a potential exit from east London to remain at loan side Fiorentina.

The eight-cap central star left the London Stadium for Italy on a temporary deal last summer and has enjoyed a good run of form in the side, making 32 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking with two games left to play of the Italian top flight, Fernandes’ agent Franco Moretti confirmed talks would take place then, with Football.London reporting that Manuel Pellegrini wants him to stay this summer.

Moretti told Viola News: “The boy is very happy with his experience with Fiorentina, he found himself very well, and is very happy to be in Italy.

“At the end of the championship we will meet with the company and the coach and we will talk about the boy’s future, trying to take the best route for everyone. With the new coach Montella there was immediately a good relationship, the boy is very happy.”

Opinion

Fernandes has hardly been seen by West Ham fans of late and so they might not get what the big deal about letting him leave would be. However, you do not play regular top flight football in Italy and get eight caps for your country without being a decent footballer and so you can understand why Pellegrini is keen to give him another chance in the English capital this summer. Of course it all depends on the terms of the deal, whether Pellegrini can find space in his squad for another midfielder and whether the player actually wants to play for the Irons. He has not exactly been given much of a chance by the Hammers in recent years and he might feel he owes them nothing this summer. Only time will tell what happens to the promising talent but right now his focus is solely on Fiorentina and ensuring they have the best possible end to the season.
