COMMENTARY
With the Premier League season coming to an end it means the transfer window is just around the corner – a time of year which rarely provides Newcastle United fans with much joy. However, the Toon Army might well have something to celebrate if the supporters’ reactions to a reported transfer hunt for Danny Welbeck comes off. The Magpies have been linked with a move for the Arsenal forward by Football Insider, with top flight rivals Everton said to be chasing the England international as well as Rafael Benitez’s side. As many of the Newcastle faithful have pointed out on Twitter, Welbeck’s injury record, which is pretty awful, would make him a seriously risky signing but the fact he could be snapped up for a free transfer in the summer, his contract at the Emirates Stadium coming to an end, could negate that. Really, the striker that Newcastle fans want to see leading the line next season is Salomon Rondon but it seems as though there are plenty who could get behind Welbeck’s arrival at St James’ Park.
