Salomon Rondon’s performances in a Newcastle shirt this season have proved that Rafael Benitez can make shrewd loan signings, and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham would be no different.

Following the Northern Echo’s report on Friday that Inter Milan are readying a move for Magpies striker Ayoze Perez, the newspaper then alleged that Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham would be a target if the former left.

And this would be a fantastic move from Benitez. Having brought in Rondon from West Brom last summer, the Venezuelan has netted 10 Premier League goals and laid on seven others for his teammates.

If the Spaniard was to bring in Abraham, the 21-year-old could have the same impact. The young Englishman left Stamford Bridge on a loan deal to Aston Villa and has gone on to score an impressive 25 goals in 37 Championship appearances for the club.

Benitez and Abraham have history too. The Newcastle Chronicle report in their live transfer blog [Friday, 9:00am] that, following the Magpies’ return to the Premier League from the Championship in 2017, the striker was on Benitez’s wish list that summer.

But Abraham instead opted for a move to Swansea, faring worse with only five goals and two assists as the South Wales outfit were relegated.

If Benitez is thinking about adding another striker to his squad this summer, now would be a great time to reignite his interest in Abraham.

Losing Perez would be a big blow to Newcastle, but having shown his prowess with the loan acquisition of Rondon, there’s no reason to suggest that on his return to the Premier League, Abraham will be a flop. Far from it.
