Rangers considering Phil Jagielka approach

|

Rangers are considering a move for Everton defender Phil Jagielka, according to Football Insider.

The source claims that Gers boss Steven Gerrard has lined the former England international up as a replacement for Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley, who are both set to leave at the end of the season.

Jagielka, who is in the final year of his Everton deal, can be signed by clubs on a free transfer if he fails to pen an extension in the coming monts.

Football Insider claims that Gerrard is excited by the prospect of bringing Jagielka north of the border, should the 36-year-old leave Merseyside.

Good move for Everton?

It would be a great shame for Everton fans to see Jagielka go. After arriving from Sheffield United in 2007, the defender has gone on to rack up 385 Everton appearances and has been a wonderful servant. There is never a good time to say goodbye to club legends, but the likelihood is that if he stays, Jagielka will play second fiddle and warm the bench while more recent defensive additions start at the back.

Likely to happen?

Jagielka will most likely leave Everton at the end of the season, but whether or not it will be to Rangers remains to be seen. The defender has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park at times this season, often being replaced by Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma at the back. However, Jagielka did start in wins over Arsenal and Fulham recently, so Marco Silva has one big decision to make off the back of those appearances.
