Tottenham will table a bid to sign Everton loan star Andre Gomes “in the coming days” after agreeing with the midfielder’s agent that they will make an offer to parent club Barcelona, according to Sport.

The Spanish news outlet has claimed that Spurs chiefs have met with the 25-year-old’s representatives and Barca are now awaiting a formal offer from the North London club.

It is understood that Spurs will bid £29.5million to sign the Portugal international, who is keen to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the upcoming summer transfer window despite an impressive loan spell on loan at Premier League rivals Everton.

Good move for Tottenham?

Gomes has done well on Merseyside this season and most Everton fans will be gutted to see that they are unlikely to sign the playmaker on a permanent basis from Barcelona in the summer.

He has made 28 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring one goal and supplying two assists.

Tottenham fans should know that you shouldn’t read too much into how many goals and assists a deep-lying midfielder gets after all the impressive displays by Mousa Dembele, so they should be able to appreciate Gomes as a good player.

However the worry is that he has had a season where he has struggled to be fully fit and might not be a massive upgrade on what Spurs already have.

Gomes is still a good player though and for less than £30million, he should be a good signing.

Likely to happen?

At the moment it is looking very encouraging for Tottenham, but like most transfer reports surrounding the North London club, fans should not get their hopes up too soon.

Daniel Levy, if he does decide to do business, usually does he signings later in the summer so it’s strange that something would be so far down the line before the Premier League season has even ended.
