Everton are preparing a bid for Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes, according to Football Insider.

The club have already made contact with Grimes’ representatives in order to reach an agreement to bring the 23-year-old to Goodison Park.

Grimes won Swansea’s player of the season award after a fantastic Championship campaign. The former England Under 21 international missed just one of Swansea’s league matches last term and has caught the eye of Marco Silva.

The report claims Everton would have to pay £10million for Grimes and that they’re interested in Swansea winger Daniel James too.

Good move for Everton?

Grimes is clearly a talented player. The midfielder beat Daniel James and Oliver McBurnie to the player of the season award which speaks volume about how good a season he had. Grimes looked accomplished in the Championship and the question is, can he make the step-up and become a solid Everton midfielder. Swansea will be desperate not to lose one of their key men and Everton must ensure they can offer the youngster sufficient game-time if they are to secure the signing. The Toffees will be in the market for centre midfielder’s this summer and Grimes may be a cost-effective option.

Likely to happen?

Given that Everton are chasing the permanent signing of Andre Gomes, a deal for Grimes may be a back-up option. If a deal for Gomes begins to drag on, a deal for Grimes may be on the cards and he will cost a fraction of what Gomes will. There are question marks around whether Grimes can make such a big step-up, Marco Silva will be weighing up whether the deal is the right move.
