Everton defender Cuco Martina will remain on the club’s for sale list when he returns from a loan spell in the Eredivisie, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 29-year-old, who was loaned to Stoke City in August before having his move scrapped in January and being sent to Feyenoord, made 31 appearances in all competitions last season.

The newspaper says that while Martina is expected to return to report for pre-season training, the Toffees’ stance that he is for sale will not change this summer.

The report claims that Everton are keen on cutting their squad down and freeing up their wage bill by offloading 38-time Curacao international Martina, who is reportedly a target for clubs in Europe.

This move would make absolute sense and it would be no surprise to see Martina leave for another club this summer. The 29-year-old had a great impact for Everton in his debut season after signing from Southampton in the summer of 2017. He made 21 Premier League appearances and even chipped in with two assists, but this season it has been made clear that Marco Silva does not think he is worth keeping around. He has been sent out on successive loans, which shows that after the move to the Potteries failed, the manager was intent on offloading him again. Now, it would be no surprise to see him go for good. One of the main ways in which Everton will fund their summer of spending is through player sales, and Cuco Martina should be high on the list of players from they can make money. This one is a no-brainer.
