Moyes remains coy over Celtic links

|

David Moyes has admitted that he wants to go back into club management, but has remained coy over the possibility of taking over at Celtic.

The former Manchester United has been tentatively linked with the job at Parkhead, as reported by the Scottish Sun, but he remained non-committal on his future during an appearance on talkSPORT.

As quoted in the Daily Record, he said: “I’ve always had itchy feet.

“I prefer the day-to-day but can I see myself being a national manager? Of course. But at the moment my first choice would be to go back into club management.

“I think I’d be open to whatever’s right [England or Scotland]. The best league to manage in is the English Premier League.

“I played for Celtic. But I’ve got to say, if I got a chance to go back and work in Spain again or a chance to work in Germany or Italy I would take those opportunities as well.”

OPINION

You would have to say that, on the face of it, Moyes could actually be a pretty decent option for Celtic. The former Manchester United boss is in need of some redemption, and while his spell with West Ham last season went a decent way to repairing his reputation, you get the impression that a more long term role, one where he is not seen purely as a firefighter, is what he needs to restore his damaged name fully. He knows the club, he knows the Scottish game, and while things may not have always gone perfectly for him, he has got undeniable experience at some genuinely massive clubs. In many ways his situation is reminiscent of the one that Brendan Rodgers found himself in before taking the job at Parkhead, and look how that worked out for him. If Moyes could come in and have even half of that success, he would be a very popular appointment indeed.
