Youri Tielemans was offered to Tottenham on loan in January, according to prominent Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur.

Terreur, who writes for Het Laatste Nieuws made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Thursday morning and added that Tottenham and Man United “are still sniffing around”.

Tielemans ended up at Leicester on loan from Monaco for a half-season loan and he’s impressed massively in the Premier League, scoring three goals and adding five assists in 11 league games.

He has said that he will decide his future at the end of the season. He’s under contract until 2022 at Monaco where he’s struggled for regular starts.

OPINION

Mauricio Pochettino said that he couldn’t find anyone to improve his squad in January but this makes those words look a little silly. Tielemans might not have looked as attractive in January but Leicester took a punt and it’s worked out brilliantly for him. He’s turned heads in the Premier League and it’s got teams like Man United and, ironically, Tottenham looking at him. Imagine if Tottenham had signed him on loan and Daniel Levy had inserted an option to buy… They would be in a much stronger position now – no player likes rejection and Tielemans might think that if Spurs didn’t think much of him before, that he would prefer to go to another club. It’s not like Tielemans is an unknown quantity either – he’s made 21 appearances for a quality Belgium side. We think he’d improve the Tottenham squad in a big way.
