Tottenham’s stars were each delivered a rousing 21 word speech by striker Harry Kane at half time in their Champions League semi final victory versus Ajax, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim on their website that the north Londoners, who were losing 3-0 on aggregate to the Dutch giants with just 45 minutes left to play, were given an individual message by star man Kane, who was missing out through injury.

It is stated that the short but powerful choice of words from the Englishman were: “Is this how you want your season to end? Do you want to go out with a whimper or a bang?”

Spurs came back thanks to a hat trick from Lucas Moura in Amsterdam, his final and match winning goal coming as the last kick of the game.

Opinion

Kane might not be the man who wears the captain’s armband for Tottenham but there is little questioning that he has the leadership capabilities of carrying out the role with confidence. He is Spurs through and through and even when he is not playing he is trying to have an influence on proceedings. It is not clear how much this rousing speech had on the individual stars but it was the right choice of words for such an occasion. Tottenham’s season has not been the smoothest but they have still managed to live up to and, in the case of the Champions League, exceed expectation set on them by fans and pundits alike. The Lilywhite faithful nor the players did not want to see it come to such a stuttering halt and they showed exactly what they were made of in midweek. If they can take that sort of performance into the final, we could well be seeing the Champions League trophy in north London.
