BT Sport host Darrell Currie is clearly stunned by Celtic’s reported approach to hire Jose Mourinho as their next permanent manager.

Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that the Hoops have made an offer to hire the former Chelsea manager, who has been out of work since he was sacked by Manchester United in December.

Celtic are yet to make a clear decision on who they want to be in charge of the club after the end of this season when Neil Lennon’s interim spell in the hotseat comes to an end.

However Currie is clearly staggered by a move to hire Mourinho, and simply said “wow” via his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.

OPINION

Peter Lawwell has shown a lot of ambition by making a move to hire Mourinho as Celtic’s next manager, but the chances are that the Portuguese boss will turn the Bhoys down. Mourinho may have had a poor spell at Man United but he is still one of the top managers in world football and he would no doubt demand a lot of money from Celtic. He might also want to take charge of a team in one of Europe’s top leagues and unfortunately, that is where Scottish football holds the Bhoys back because of the reputation it has outside from Hadrian’s Wall and beyond. It would be a minor miracle if Lawwell was able to agree a deal with Mourinho but at least he is showing signs of hiring a good manager rather than having another Ronny Deila on the cards. It does suggest that Lennon won’t get the full-time job. That might change though if Celtic are turned down by too many managers.
