COMMENTARY
Lots of West Brom fans are not happy at all about wing-back Kieran Gibbs following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the first leg of the Championship play-off and rightly so. It was his challenge that led to on-loan Villa striker Tammy Abraham slotting home a penalty and giving his side the all-important lead going into Tuesday’s second leg. It was a schoolboy error from Gibbs, who rashly slid in on Jack Grealish before the latter hit the deck and in a game of this magnitude, is almost unforgivable. The referee pointed straight to the spot and there can be few who doubt it was the right call. Gibbs should have tried to keep Grealish going towards the byline and settled for a corner. Besides, the midfielder didn’t have many options in attack from where he was stood so there was no reason for him not to go down. It means that West Brom have it all to do if they are to reach the final now.
This is Futbol has picked out some of the best tweets following Gibbs’ challenge on Grealish…

???? that was a foolish challenge by Gibbs and yes a penalty. My God, we’ve blown up this game.

Brilliant stuff from West Brom. First, nine guys in the box to mark three Villa players while leaving someone free on the edge of the box. Then a stupid tackle from Gibbs who consistently does stupid things. Sums up the flaws of a pretty terrible team #WBA

Probably Gibbs' worst couple of minutes for WBA yet ?
