Vinnie Jones has sent his former side Leeds United a rallying message ahead of their play-off semi-final first leg against Derby.

Leeds travel to Derby on Saturday knowing a win would put them in pole position to reach a play-off final at Wembley at the end of May.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Jones said: “This is the extra time of the season. This is when it hurts. This is when you go through the pain for the team around you. This is when you you leave it all on the pitch. This is when players become legends. Win whatever it takes. For the shirt. No Regrets.”

Leeds won both their previous meetings with Derby in the regular Championship season, winning 4-1 away at Pride Park on the second day of the season.

OPINION

This is a real, tough rallying call from the former Leeds hard man, who knows what it takes to give everything for his club when they going gets hard. Jones was renown for leaving everything on the pitch and going through the pain to get the victory. Leeds need to be resolute in the away leg against Derby to take a lead back to Elland Road or at-least take the game their level. Marcelo Bielsa caused great controversy when spying on their play-off rivals earlier in the season which will add a little bit more of tension to the fixture and his Leeds side need to manage the occasion or face humiliation. Jones finishes his message with ‘no regrets’ and that is a perfect line, after the disappointment of missing out on automatic promotion, the Whites must leave everything out on the pitch in these two legs and give themselves every single chance of a return to the top flight after 15 years of football league action.
