Rangers are in the hunt to sign Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell, according to the Daily Mail.

The national newspaper claim that the Gers are keen on the young midfield enforcer with him looking certain to leave the English club in the summer due to their financial troubles.

The Daily Mail report that Rangers aren’t the only team keen on Connell as Norwich, Southampton and Preston have also shown interest in the young Irish midfielder.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes.

Connell looks to have a bright future in football as he has already managed to feature in the highly-competitive English Championship despite only being 18-years-old.

The midfielder featured 10 times in the division for Bolton during the 2018/19 season, and the fact he broke into the first-team at a young age shows his talent.

While Connell may struggle to walk into the Gers’ first-team upon arriving at Ibrox, as Steven Gerrard has some capable of midfield enforcers to call upon, he is a player that could one day be important to the club.

Also given that he’d only cost a small fee as his contract runs out in June, he wouldn’t be a risky signing to make.

Likely to happen?

Connell appears to be on the move this summer due to Bolton’s troubles, but whether he ends up at Rangers is debatable.

The Scottish giants have a lot of competition for the teenage’s signature so it’s hard to know if they’d be able to convince him to make the move north.

However maybe the allure of working with such a high-profile name like Gerrard could be enough to tempt him as Connell no doubt grew up watching the Gers boss wow for Liverpool and England.
