Phil Hay has delivered a double update with talks ongoing between Leeds and manager Marcelo Bielsa over an extension to his contract.

Hay said that he believed a decision would be made in the next couple of days and added, “It still sounds like it’s going in the right direction to me. Bielsa is just meticulous about everything”.

Hay, senior journalist with the Yorkshire Evening Post, made the claims on his personal Twitter page on Monday morning.

Talking previously on talkSPORT (Thursday), Andrea Radrizzani had said, “We have a chance to keep him and we’ll see. The next few days will be decisive, we have a few things to clarify and we will make an announcement”.

OPINION

Leeds are desperate for news – good news, of course – but Bielsa is intent on keeping them waiting. Many fans read Radrizzani’s comments on talkSPORT as a negative and that Bielsa was going to leave. Some also questioned why Radrizzani was going on national radio when he had nothing to say, but that’s not exactly how it happened. Jim White was at an EFL function the night before and that’s when he conducted what was essentially a doorstop interview with the Leeds owner. Talks have always been said to be progressing well and while you can understand the fans’ concern, it still sounds like it’s on tract. If Hay is right, and he normally, is, Leeds fans should get their answer by Wednesday this week. So, not long to go, but today will be a tough day, with the play-off final due to be contested by Aston Villa and Derby. Hopefully, the club can announce a new start shortly after and give fans a boost. If we had to jump one way or another, we’d go with Bielsa signing up for another year. The story just doesn’t feel like it’s reached an end yet.
