Hull City attacker Jarrod Bowen denied being an Aston Villa supporter and pointed out it was his dad who supports Dean Smith’s side.

The 22-year-old who has scored 22 goals in 44 league outings for Hull this season wanted to set the record straight about not being a Villans fan as he has recently read people calling him one.

“I’ve seen a few things recently saying Leicester should sign Jarrod Bowen but he’s a Villa fan and I want to reply,” said Bowen in an interview with Sky Sports, as seen on their website.

“I’m not a Villa fan, my dad’s a Villa fan, let’s get this straight.”

OPINION

It’s easy to see where the confusion has come from as quite often a son supports the same team as their father. However Bowen has made it crystal clear he has no allegiances to the Villans. It’s odd why the 22-year-old Championship star wants to clarify that he doesn’t support Aston Villa as surely he has some affection for the side given that his dad supports them. Yet maybe he is really fearful that it could cost him a move to a club or if he opts to join one of the Villans’ rivals, it may see supporters jump on his back straight away. Bowen has had a fantastic season for Hull by all accounts and you feel that he will more than likely be on the move in the summer. The 22-year-old looks worthy of getting an opportunity in the Premier League and who knows with the Villans still in with chance of getting promoted, maybe they will acquire his services.
