Former Premier League manager Carlos Carvahal wants to be the next manager of Celtic and his representatives have contacted the club about the job, according to the Scottish Sun.

The 53-year-old has managed Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea, as well as Sporting Braga, Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas.

The report claims he studied for his UEFA Pro Licence with Jose Mourinho.

OPINION

Neil Lennon is still the frontrunner for the job but many fans don’t think he’s the man to take them to 10-in-a-row. The recent Old Firm clash hasn’t helped his chances and the 2-0 loss at Ibrox was comprehensive and worrying at the same time for Celtic. However, there’s an argument that he’s inherited problems and that he deserves a chance to make the squad his own. Carvahal is an interesting name. He took Sheffield Wednesday to the brink of the Premier League, making the play-offs twice and the Wembley final once. However, his stint in the Premier League with Swansea didn’t work out so well. He was hired in December 2017 and was let go at the end of the season when the Swans were relegated. Celtic fans will probably be lukewarm on Carvalhal and will be hoping for a bigger name to come and take over at the club. That’s unlikely to happen though. Despite the crazy rumours about Jose Mourinho, with all the will in the world, that’s not going to happen.
