Darren Gough shared he found it amazing that Tottenham had Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United breathing down their neck in the Premier League.

The retired English cricketer couldn’t seem to fathom how Spurs were well in the fight to finish in the Premier League’s top-four as he believes they’re comfortably the third best team in the division.

“But for me they’re comfortably the third best team in that division, third right?” said Gough on talkSPORT (Tuesday April 23rd, 16:06).

“Yet you’ve got Chelsea behind them, Arsenal and Manchester United could catch them and I find it amazing really I do.

“That those teams are even close to Tottenham.”

Spurs currently sit third in the Premier League with 67 points ahead of playing Brighton, which means they’re level on points with the Blues, one point ahead of the Gunners and three points ahead of Man United.

OPINION

It’s actually amazing that Gough has managed to turn his admiration for Spurs into a subtle dig. The talkSPORT pundit clearly believes Spurs should have secured their place in the top-four by now due to being noticeably superior to their Premier League rivals. While Gough’s remarks come from a positive place, Spurs fans will likely still not appreciation his opinion as it reflects on their side in a bad light.  However then again Spurs fans may opt to focus on the positive in Gough’s verdict, with that being that he clearly rates them highly. This may distract Tottenham fans from being angry at Gough, as anytime someone ranks them above bitter rivals Arsenal, they’re bound to enjoy it. Spurs face an important clash with Brighton on Tuesday and if they win that, it will give them a little bit of a gap between their top-four rivals. Yet if Mauricio Pochettino’s side drop the ball against Brighton, perhaps there will be a little bit of panic emerge.
