West Ham have been approached about a potential deal to sign Boca Juniors and Argentina striker Dario Benedetto in the summer, according to Team Talk.

The news outlet claims that the Hammers are lining up a bid to sign the 28-year-old, who is valued at £20million by Boca, as they are ready to say their goodbyes to Javier Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll once the season is over.

It is understood that Benedetto is interested in a move to England as West Ham are “hugely respected” in Argentina as they are the club that lured Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to the Premier League.

Good move for West Ham?

Benedetto might be a good signing for West Ham, but only if he is going to be used as a second-choice or a back-up option because his goalscoring record this term has not been anything to brag about.

He has scored just four goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this season while last term the Argentina international.

The former CF America striker was in red-hot form last term by scoring 13 goals in 15 outings before a serious knee ligament injury stopped him in his tracks.

Since returning from that injury though, he has not been as prolific.

West Ham should not pay too much for Benedetto, who seems like he has been marred by issues lately.

Likely to happen?

Benedetto seems keen on a move to the Premier League and so do his representatives after contact was made with the Hammers.

It is all going to depend on the fee that will be involved because Manuel Pellegrini will surely want to bolster his striker options in the summer.

At the moment it is too soon to say how likely it is that the Boca Juniors hitman will join the Irons, but there could be some movement in the coming weeks and months.
