Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is to be watched in person by Juventus’ sporting director Fabio Paratici in their Champions League clash with Ajax over a potential summer move, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian news outlet claim that the Serie A title winners are keen on the Belgian powerhouse, on £80,000-a-week (source: Spotrac) in north London, ahead of what is likely to be a fierce fight for his capture this summer.

The centre back is said to have a £25million release clause in his contract and so the man in charge of recruitment at Juventus is set to run the rule over him in person when Spurs line up against Ajax, the side who knocked Juve out, in their Champions League semi final.

Opinion

Spurs can expect to welcome more and more of their rivals, both domestically and on the continent, to their games before the season is out thanks to Alderweireld and his transfer clause. He will not be the only Tottenham star in the sights of other clubs but the ease of snapping him up from out the grasp of the north Londoners, and in particular Daniel Levy, makes him a very attractive option. Not only that, but the £25million asking price is a bargain for someone of his talents. Juventus are the exact sort of side that you could see him going to – comfortable at the top of Serie A with ambitions of cracking the Champions League with the likes of Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala leading the line. Bringing someone like Alderweireld to shore up their back line would be a massive boost for them and so do not be surprised to see the Belgian ace swapping Tottenham for Turin – if Paratici is impressed with what he sees against Ajax, of course.
