COMMENTARY
Tottenham lost 1-0 to Ajax on Tuesday and it’s fair to say several Spurs players let themselves down. While some may argue the occasion got to them, the performance that some of the players submitted bordered on being unacceptable. One of these players whose display was indefensible against Ajax was none other than midfielder Victor Wanyama. The 27-year-old defensive midfielder constantly gave the ball away and seemed unable to be the physical presence his side needed him to be during the match. With this in mind, it was no surprise that many Spurs fans destroyed Wanyama for his display against Ajax as they expected better. One fan claimed he was dreadful while another just urged for Spurs to sell him in the summer, as they made clear the club should not make any excuse in order to keep him. While Wanyama has shown glimpses of his talent in some of his recent outings, it’s fair to say all his good work was undone on Tuesday.

Wanyama has been dreadful. Looks like last seasons Sissoko

Wanyama is just not Wanyama anymore. He’s lost it.

God, Wanyama has been dreadful. Change of shape seems to have isolated Ajax. Big second half ahead! #COYS #THFC

Seeing Ziyech dribble at Wanyama gives me nightmares

We’ve lacked intensity until the end when Sissoko came on (unsurprisingly) but most importantly we miss someone in the middle that can control the play. Wanyama is years off his best form and it’s hurting us. Eriksen forgettable as well.
