Piers Morgan has blasted Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi, claiming that he has been a complete waste of money for the Gunners.

Mustafi, 26, endured a dreadful afternoon in Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace the Emirates on Easter Sunday.

Celebrity Gunners fan Morgan took to his personal Twitter account to annihilate the Germany international during the Premier League fixture which saw Unai Emery’s men miss the chance to move up to third in the table.

“Mustafi is the biggest waste of £35m in world football history,” said Morgan. “What the **** was he doing?”

OPINION

Ouch. Mustafi has not been great for Arsenal, but the biggest waste of £35m in the history of the sport? Liverpool fans will have something about that when they paid £36million to sign Andy Carroll back in 2011. Mustafi was awful against Crystal Palace, but so was basically every other Arsenal player that was on the pitch in what was an Easter Sunday to forget for the Gunners faithful. Mustafi was in the middle of a defensive mix-up with goalkeeper Bernd Leno when Wilfried Zaha put Palace ahead in the second-half. He just seemed to leave the ball for Zaha to go in and score for Roy Hodgson’s side. It was comical and one of the main rules of defending is to not take risks. If the ball is at your fault, you need to deal with it. Mustafi just assumed that Leno was there to collect the ball when he was actually nowhere near it. It’s embarrassing to think that he cost £35million.
