OPINION
It is strange to see so many Manchester United fans heaping praise on Fred for his performance in the 3-0 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday night because like every other United player, he was average, if not terrible. Fred initially gave away a penalty in the first-half but VAR saved the Brazilian’s bacon after replays showed to the referee that he won the ball before making contact with Ivan Rakitic. It wasn’t a penalty and the correct call was made as it turned out to be a good tackle by Fred, but after that, it was all rather average from him. None of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men should hold their head up high after crashing out of the Champions League in such a poor display at the Nou Camp. Fred was nothing special, but fair play to these supporters for trying to find something positive in what as a miserable night for their team. Fred has not been great in his debut season at Old Trafford, so maybe this praise will lift his confidence a bit.

Fred and Jones are the only 2 players I’ve seen that are giving 110% but let’s be honest we can’t win a game with 2 players. One is a little Brazilian who can’t speak a word of English and the other is an overweight pull-a-face with a bandage on his head. #MUFC

Fred is the only one playing

Right now, Fred is the only one playing well. I don’t even see the others trying to do anything useful other than throwing themselves at the ball. #MUFC
