Vincent Janssen has sent his thanks to Tottenham supporters after he made his first appearance of the season in the 1-0 win against Brighton on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old outcast came off the bench for the closing stages of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to earn his first appearance for the North London club since August 2017.

Although the Dutch striker’s return only lasted around 10 minutes, he was clearly happy to have pulled on the Tottenham shirt.

“So happy to be back, thanks to all the fans for the amazing support,” Janssen said via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.

OPINION

Although Mauricio Pochettino handed Janssen a rare appearance on Wednesday night, Spurs fans should not expect to start seeing the Netherlands international on a more regular basis over the final few weeks of the season. Pochettino has made a lot of changes to his team selection in the last couple of weeks due to his side playing a lot of matches. Harry Kane’s injury means that Spurs need their fringe players to step up and that’s exactly what happened with Janssen on Tuesday. He might get one more appearance off the bench before the end of the season, but that could be it. Pochettino may be trying to put Janssen in the shop window if anything because it might be a good idea to try and offload the Dutch centre-forward in the summer due to him not having any real impact in North London. Spurs need to find a good back-up option for Kane because Janssen has been far from that in his three seasons on the books at Tottenham.
