COMMENTARY
As if suffering defeat to Brentford – and seeing their automatic promotion hopes all but go up in flames – was not hard enough for Leeds United fans, they also saw first team mainstay Ezgjan Alioski forced off early on with injury. He’s played more minutes than any other player under Marcelo Bielsa but his setback has revealed to be a season-ending one, a cruel blow for the Macedonian international who has been so instrumental to the club’s push for a Premier League return. Taking to his personal Twitter account to post a message from his hospital bed, Alioski was all smiles and thumbs up and the fans were quick to respond with messages of encouragement. It might be sentiment after his injury but the tweets put out are a little more positive than what is said on a matchday, and those suggesting he has been an outstanding performer have short memories. Yes, he has been impressive in flashes and a hard worker, but he has also been incredibly wasteful too. It remains to be seen whether Leeds United will be in the Premier League next season but if they are, Alioski might well be considered lacking in the necessary quality to remain at Elland Road.
Thanks for all your get-well wishes! With your support I will come back stronger. C’mon Leeds!?? #MOT pic.twitter.com/eLtaVzJKsB
