Jake Hastie is set to undergo a medical with Rangers as the Motherwell winger edges closer to signing for the Glasgow giants, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news outlet has claimed that the Light Blues are within 72 hours of signing the 20-year-old on a pre-contract basis as his deal at Fir Park is set to expire at the end of the season.

It is understood that Motherwell will be owed a compensation fee by Rangers, who have also tied up a pre-contract deal to sign Jordan Jones from Kilmarnock in the summer as well.

Good move for Rangers?

It seems as though Steven Gerrard wants to have plenty of competition in the wide positions next season as he has already signed Jones and is now on the verge of snapping up Hastie as well.

The Scotland Under-21 international can be seen as more of one for the future, but his form at Motherwell since the winter break suggests that he is ready to play regular first team football at Ibrox straight away.

Since returning from a loan spell at Alloa in January, Hastie has scored six goals in 13 Scottish Premiership appearances.

He is a very good finisher from both short and long range and it appears as though Rangers are signing themselves a very capable young attacker.

Likely to happen?

Football Insider’s report suggest that this deal is almost done, so it would be a surprise for it not to be completed now.

Hastie does not have any known injury issues so he should be able to pass his medical with flying colours.

Gerrard has almost added one more player to his attack ahead of next season.
