Jim White has said that Leeds being in the play-offs makes them a “mouth-watering” prospect.

Leeds were favourites for automatic promotion ahead of the Easter break, but two defeats has meant that Sheffield United now need just one win to clinch second.

Talking on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Tuesday, 12pm) White was responding to Ian ‘The Moose’ Abrahams, who twisted the knife into the Leeds side who he accused of losing “steam”.

“I’ve said all season that Marcelo Bielsa’s teams always blow up at the end of the season,” said Abrahams. “They’ve lost steam just at the wrong point in the season and I’d be very worried going into the play-offs if I was Leeds.”

White replied saying that Leeds would make the play-offs a “mouth-watering” prospect and asked Abrahams who he thought would win them.

“Aston Villa have won 10 in a row but if they want to get promoted they’ve got two more in the league and then three in the play-offs. 15 games is a big ask for anyone.

“I think West Brom have been chugging away all season but the team in sixth is coming into it. I think Derby will win the play-offs,” Abrahams concluded.

OPINION

It won’t come as a surprise to Leeds fans that Abrahams isn’t tipping their side up to win the play-offs. He’s been on Leeds’ back ever since the spygate scandal broke and is happy that he what he thinks about Bielsa seems to have come to fruition. We’d actually argue that Leeds haven’t run out of steam, but out of ideas. They’re still dominating possession in games they’re losing, they’re just not scoring enough goals. Jim White is bang on, though. The play-offs could well be Leeds, Aston Villa, West Brom and derby and that’s definitely a mouth-watering prospect and a fantastically tough way for any side to get promoted. Whoever wins the play-offs this season will have deserved their place at the top table. We really doubt any of the other three sides will want to play Leeds though, no-matter what Abrahams says.
