Rangers are likely to finalise the signing of Jake Hastie from Motherwell in the next 48 hours, according to the Express.

The newspaper claims that Hastie, 20, has agreed a four-year deal with the Light Blues and confirmation of the move should come at some point this week.

It is understood that Motherwell were kept out of the loop as Rangers made their “behind-the-scenes” move for the Scotland Under-21 international, whose deal at Fir Park is set to expire at the end of the season.

Good move for Rangers?

Hastie has been in terrific form for Motherwell in the last few months and according to the Express, Rangers might only have to pay around £355,000 in compensation for the winger.

That is a very low fee for a young Scottish player who has Scottish Premiership experience and is currently playing the best football of his career.

Since returning to Fir Park in January after a loan spell at Alloa, Hastie has scored six goals in 13 Scottish Premiership appearances, with some of those strikes being absolute belters and contenders for the goal of the season award.

He is going to be a welcome addition at Ibrox and fans should be pleased that Steven Gerrard and Mark Allen have got this deal all but wrapped up.

Likely to happen?

Hastie was dropped to Motherwell’s bench for their game against Hamilton on Saturday, even though he had started all of the last 12 Scottish Premiership fixtures for them.

It’s not like the 20-year-old has been playing badly, it’s just a good indicator that something has happened in relation to the player’s future at Fir Park.

There have been several reports saying that Rangers have basically sealed the signing of the attacker, so it would be a massive shock for him to not head to Ibrox once the season ends.
