Sheffield United may have defeated Brentford 2-0 on Tuesday but supporters had a bone pick with one player on social media. Attacker Gary Madine was sent off in the 35th minute for a needless foul and loads of Sheffield United fans rightly fumed. While many let the 28-year-old know that his red card was needless and it was a reckless challenge by him, others weren’t impressed before he got his marching orders. One fan claimed that Madine ruined the way their side played and while another moaned that the team just hoofed the ball up to him. Madine does thrive as being a target man for the club which sees long balls played into him, but that doesn’t warrant him being slammed. All clubs should have a plan B up their sleeves when it comes to their attacking options and that is what the 28-year-old forward represents. If Billy Sharp can’t find a way to weave through an opponent’s defence then having Madine to call upon is very useful. However the only issue with that idea now, is that Madine is set to be suspended after picking up a red card.
