Chris Sutton delivered a disparaging verdict on Rangers after they crashed out of the Scottish Cup to Aberdeen.

Rangers were looking for revenge after Aberdeen knocked them out of the semi-finals of the league cup earlier in the season.

But, despite having striker Alfredo Morelos for this game, they couldn’t score and lost 2-0, with Aberdeen in front for 88 minutes of the game.

Sutton said, “Aberdeen a class above Rangers once again… Looks like Rangers are concentrating on the league.”

OPINION

This one is going to hurt Rangers fans, players and Steven Gerrard. They were the overwhelming favourites to progress tonight and set-up a mouth-watering clash with Celtic, with their rivals already through to the semi-finals. It was definitely their best shot at a trophy this season and they were hugely disappointing tonight. The worst players? Borna Barisic and Daniel Candeias were terrible, as was James Tavernier. Alfredo Morelos picked up another yellow card which would have ruled him out of the semi-final anyway, although he was perhaps unlucky to have been penalised for diving. No one really did the shirt proud though and Rangers will end this season wondering what might have been. Sutton’s verdict is fair – Aberdeen came into Rangers’ home tonight and humiliated them in a game they would have been hoping to squeeze into extra time.
